Survivor – Fiji Island

Posted by admin on Thursday, October 11th, 2007

Survivor, one of the very popular CBS International Inc. series, has survived thrived for 14 seasons with the 15th season, Survivor – China, currently captivating the global audience.  I will have to wait anxiously for the DVD to come out before I can see this season survivor.   Malaysia Astro never seems to be able to get the rights to screen this interesting reality show.

Why do I mention Survivor series?  For those of you who are not followers of this series, hopefully you can become a “convert” – not that I will get some novelty rights from CBS.  Survivor Reality Show has 20 (or sometime less) ”castaways” transported to an island of nowhere to survive on bare necessities.  In the series, they have to ally themselves, outwit or out-strength the other camp at the beginning, in the process earn rewards or immunity, the losers being voted out of the game one by one.  Towards the second half of the game, they will have to ally themselves with one another to survive and be the last three.  They will then be voted to be the sole survivior by the tribal jury consisting of the last 9 members voted out from the game.  So it is important to strategize, ally, outwit one another, even wickedly voted out your allies, all the time careful not to make yourself too much an enemy to the 9 jury members so they can vote for your favour.  You see, the stake for the sole survivor is US$1 Million!  That’s a lot of money indeed.

I was watching the last Survivor series the other nights.  Suvivor Fiji Episode 13 has the last 6 castaway left namely Boo, Casandra, Dreamz,  Earl, Stacy and Yauman.

The last six went to the site and found the prize of winning for the day was a Ford 4WD!  The contest that day ended with Yauman as the winner.  The twist and turn of the episode was when suddenly Yauman offered the car to Dreamz (who express his strong desire to own a car before) in exchange for the immunity idol should he and Dreamz be in the last four and should Dreamz won the contest.  Without much hesitation, Dreamz accepted the offer.  Yauman’s move was the first time ever for a winner of a car in Survivor series to offer in exchange for immunity idol,  in fact there was no guarantee that Dreamz would honour his word!  In the last episode, Yauman and Dreamz were indeed in the last four with Casandra and Earl.  Dreamz won the last contest and had the immunity idol.  At the tribal council, Dreamz went back on his word and Yauman was voted out.  I have no right to judge him, because there was US$1 million at stake for the sole survivor.  I believe that he (Dreamz) would quite likely be voted out if he gave the idol to Yauman, therefore losing the chance of a last shot at the grand prize.  However, by turning against his own words, I don’t think that the 9 jury members would be in favour of Dreamz.  He would not had that last chance for the US$1 million anyway.

At that moment, can we resist the temptation to fall back on our words?  Not too easy I think…..all for the love of money.
