We can likely know about as much about God’s thoughts as a grasshopper can know about our thoughts. It is a totally different dimension in thought patterns.

The Creator of the universe has a plan. That plan results in the purging out of evil and the establishing of righteousness.

In our daily lives it is difficult to be aware of the spirit world. Elisha’s assistant had that problem. He woke up and saw that the city was surrounded by horses and chariots and he was afraid (2 Kings 6:15). Elisha prayed that his assistant could have his eyes opened to see the spiritual army that was protecting them (2 Kings 6:16-17). Generally, we are not able to see beyond our physical plane of existence.

There was an evangelist in Miami who was scheduled to be a speaker in another city. He was scheduled to give a sermon. So it was very important to be on time. However, he began having travel problems that day causing him to think he might not get to the airport on time. There were numerous traffic problems while he was riding in the taxi. He got to the airport with only minutes to spare. He checked in quickly. He ran to the boarding area only to see the doors close on the little tunnel that led out to where the plane was. The attendants told him that once the doors close, he could not go to the plane even though the plane was still there. He became very upset and explained to them that he was to be a speaker and it was very important for him to catch that flight. They informed him that they didn’t care. He was not going to be allowed to board the plane. In a fit of anger, he was yelling and screaming at the people at the gate. But they would not open the door. The plane started to taxi. He realized there was no way he would get to his destination in time. The plane took off. He was extremely upset. He sat down and started watching one of the airport televisions. In a matter of only a few minutes, the preliminary news reports started coming in that the plane he had just missed had crashed in the Everglades. This was the famous Value Jet crash. From God’s perspective he had missed one speaking opportunity but he was still alive to speak on many more occasions.

All of us have low points in our lives during which we will either remain faithful to God or fall away. Jeremiah was lowered into a prison well in which his feet sank into the mud (Jeremiah 30:6). Joseph was falsely accused of rape and put into prison (Genesis chapter 39). Job was covered with boils from the top of his head to the bottom of his feet (Job 2:7). All three remained faithful and all three eventually recovered from their losses.

“…I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us” (Romans 8:18). The King James “reckon” is from the Greek “logizomai”, meaning: calculate, take into account.

The end of man’s rule of this earth is described in the book of Revelation. The ten nations will be destroyed by Christ when he returns. Christ, the rock, will pave the way for the mountain of the Lord’s house.

In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s house will be established in the top of the mountains (Isaiah 2:2 and Micah 4:1). There will be no more war (Isaiah 2:4 and Micah 4:3).

Christ is the chief corner stone (Ephesians 2:20 and 1 Peter 2:6).

“…unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace [there shall be] no end…” (Isaiah 9:6-7).

After three and a half years of the world’s most awful experience, Christ, the Son of man, will return to this world. This will be the end of the world (end of the age of man’s rule). When will this take place? It will be at a time similar to the time of Noah (spelled Noe in the New Testament) (Matthew 24:37, Luke 17:26). What was it that happened during the time of Noah?

“God saw that the wickedness of man became great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually” (Genesis 6:5).

This same thing is happening now in our time. This planet is starting to have a full cup of evil, including the imagination of the thoughts of the heart. Thanks to the Internet, pornography covers the globe. The highest court of the United States continues to put its stamp of approval on the slaughter of millions of unborn babies, allowing them to be slaughtered for the sake of convenience. Defense attorneys brag when their clients get by with murder (example: Johnnie Cochran indicated that they played the race card and dealt it from the bottom of the deck). Students have become serial killers after going through a school system that rejects God. Instead of blaming the godless school system, the media blames the guns. Most of the Washington politicians and most of the media are keeping very quiet about robbing the next generation to bailout the bankers. It’s as if they believe the public is so dumb they will not realize what happened if the media continues to ignore it. Christ will take back this earth by force (Revelation 19:11-16) and politics will come to an abrupt end.

When Will the World End?

There are some who might think of God as being unfair to kill all the population (except 8 people) during the time of Noah. However, God can do whatever he pleases. He created the system that gave birth to all of us. He could have chosen to save only 2 people, Noah and his wife. We need to realize that God is God and he will do what he wants to do.

“What will we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid. For he said to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion” (Romans 9:14-15).

“He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he that is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be” (Revelation 22:11-12).

In the 1500’s there had been the struggle in England of the standard religion of Rome imposing itself upon the population. It was a monopoly. That monopoly evaporated with the Reformation. People being burned at the stake, for the most part, came to an abrupt end. However, in the early and middle 1600’s and on some occasions later there would be persecution of a different sort from the church that now had the power, the Church of England. Unlike the New World (the emerging American colonies), England did not promote a generic freedom of religion. Ministers who did not conform to the religion approved by parliament, would, in many cases, find themselves in prison. These ministers were referred to as non-conformists. William Rogers was one such minister.

“And be not conformed to the world: but be you transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:2).

A little girl, Hattie, lived next door to William Rogers. She was a spoiled brad, raised by servants in her grandfather’s mansion. She noticed William Rogers, her neighbor, pulling weeds in his yard. She said, “pulling weeds is for servants.”

“Servants cost money,” was Rogers’ reply. Ironically, it was Hattie’s grandfather, Sir Richard Craddock, the magistrate, that was the reason he had no money. Mr. Craddock had outlawed Roger’s sermons at the local church house. This reduced Rogers to the point of having to preach in a living room church. People would attend services in his home since preaching in public had been outlawed by Craddock.

Little Hattie had been spoiled at an early age. She had sliced herself with a knife when she was having a temper fit. After that, her grandfather, Craddock, ordered that she could have her way in most cases. Thanks to this imperative, she was able to get away often to go see her next door neighbor, William Rogers. He would tell her stories from the Bible, especially stories about people of strong faith.

One day when he was having a church service in his home there was a knock at the door. When he opened the door, angry people grabbed him, pulled him out of the house, and threw him on the ground. They tied his wrists. He noticed 3 of his friends had already been taken into captivity. The four of them were taken to the house of the magistrate, Sir Richard Craddock. Reportedly, Craddock came in and gloated over the capture of these non-conformists.

Craddock addressed the prisoners as wolves who were leading the sheep astray. He accused William Rogers of preaching without a license. Getting a license would have meant that the state had the right to turn religion into a privilege granted only to the people who conform to the approved doctrine. He informed the prisoners he was going to fill out the papers for their imprisonment. As he left to go down the hall, Sarah, one of the four prisoners began to cry.

Suddenly, little Hattie came through the door. She recognized her neighbor. “You’ve come to visit at last!” she said, walking up to him. Rogers smiled but said nothing. Then she noticed his hands were tied.

Hattie walked up to the deputy and asked him, “What are you doing to my good old gentleman?” The deputy told her, “He’s a wicked man, but he’ll pay now.” The little girl became angry. “What are they going to do with you?” she asked of Mr. Rogers.

“Your grandfather says that I and my friends must go to prison,” said Rogers.

Hattie began to have a temper fit. She stomped her feet and began to be out of control emotionally. Her voice grew loud, “You will not go to prison. Grandpapa can’t do that to you.”

The girl raced down the hall to the room where her grandfather had gone to fill out the papers. Finding the door locked, she banged her head against it, demanding to get inside. Someone opened the door. She ran in and asked, “What are you going to do with my good old gentleman out there?”

“None of your business. Go on out and play,” her grandfather replied.

“But I will not,” she responded, “He says you are going to send him and his friends to jail. If you send them to jail, I will drown myself in the pond as soon as they are gone! I really will!”

Craddock was stunned for a while. His astonishment was profound due to the fact he was sure she was willing to carry out what she had threatened to do. He picked up the papers he had been filling out, and walked down the hall to the prisoners.

He addressed himself to the prisoners: “I had intended to send you all to jail, but my granddaughter has requested that I show you mercy. You are released. See that you do not repeat the offence.” The deputies released the prisoners. Rogers turned to Hattie and put his hand upon her head, and prayed, “God bless you, my dear child. May the blessing of that God whose cause you now plead, that as yet you know Him not, be upon you in life, at death, and throughout eternity.”

In trying to be healthy, people will sometimes give up salt. Much of this is a failure to focus upon the real problem – an imbalance between salt and potassium and the failure to drink a regular dose of water. Sometimes, switching from a land salt to a sea salt is a healthy alternative.

“Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that you might know how you should answer every man” (Colossians 4:6). This is a part of walking in wisdom (verse 5).

How can our speech be seasoned with salt? What does that mean? Christ said his disciples should be the salt of the earth:

“You are the salt of the earth: But if the salt has lost its savor, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men” (Matthew 5:13).

What does Christ mean by salt?

Salt is a preservative and anyone who is a follower of Christ will be careful to preserve the truth of God and share it with all who are able to receive it.

Sadly, most people are not salty.

“…strait [is] the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads unto life, and few there be that find it” (Matthew 7:14).

Webster’s describes the “salt of the earth” as being “the scattered elite”.

“…every sacrifice shall be salted with salt” (Mark 9:49). We shall present our bodies as living sacrifices (Romans 12:1). Our bodies should have salt.

What does the attribute of saltiness consist of?

Salt has a healthy function in a healthy body. It causes the body to desire water. Water is symbolic of God’s Holy Spirit (John 7:38-39). Salt causes a desire for water.

So being salty consists of sparking an enthusiastic interest in others that will result in causing a person to desire the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. In other words, thanks to the salt, new Christians will be thirsty for the living water, the Holy Spirit.

“He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, from his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spoke he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive…)” (John 7:38-39).

How To Understand the Bible

If we are followers of Christ, then we need to become conduits of the Holy Spirit. And the presence of salt will cause a more abundant distribution of the living water, the Spirit of God.

“And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that hears say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whoever will, let him take the water of life freely” (Revelation 22:17).
